Prep by cleaning the engine with a quality clear wax and grease remover and make sure it is dry. You can use our VHT Engine Primer SP148 prior to your top coat.

can't find sp148 anywhere locally or in stock on the internet. there is a can of sp118 high temp primer here locally. can it be used instead? or would it be ok to use the black oxide case paint without a primer?

Where do you live? We can run a search to locate a local retailer that has SP148 in stock.
If you can't locate SP148, then you could substitute it with SP100 Flameproof Gray Primer or SP118 Flameproof White Primer.

The closest retailer we could find was P&E in Goodlettsville (ph# 615-851-8060). You might want to check and see if they make deliveries anywhere near you since that's a bit of a drive... If not, you can substitute with Flameproof primers.
